A lion holding a coat of arms is set against a river landscape. On the left, a round-based tower recalls the one depicted in the Fire in the Borgo (cat. 15, 45). In the foreground, a knight or nobleman distributes alms to two soldiers—or perhaps recruits them. The soldier who bows holds a spear; the other, who carries a sword, places his hat over his chest. Both wear striped breeches. On the right, an army prepares for battle, with more soldiers visible in the distance. The characteristic three-masted ship appears again in the background. A mounted soldier sounds the charge on a trumpet, whose banner faintly displays a coat of arms in shadow. A lighter ink is used for the background. Small boats with rowers and sailing vessels are also depicted.
