In the foreground, costumed figures are engaged in revelry: musicians play the violin and lute, while elegantly dressed masqueraders—possibly Pulcinella or other commedia dell’arte characters—dance and interact animatedly. Two small boys (or short persons) fence with wooden swords, adding to the playful atmosphere. The middle ground and background are filled with crowds, processions, and architectural elements typical of Baroque Rome, including a smoking chimney and a lively urban square. The dome and towers on the horizon further suggest a Roman setting, evoking the grandeur and festivity of the city's Carnival traditions.
